What training do the staff supporting children with SEN have?
At Lakey Lane all staff support children with SEND and so regularly access support and training to enable them do this as effectively as possible.
The school has a training plan for all staff to improve the teaching and learning of children including those with SEND. This includes whole school training on SEND issues such as ASD and Speech and Language Difficulties.
Individual teachers and support staff attend training courses run by outside agencies that are relevant to the needs of specific children in their class/care e.g. from the Communication and Autism Team, Sensory Support Service and Physical Disability Team.
The staff have recently received training on supporting children with Dyslexia, from a recognised Dyslexia assessor and the SENDCo has delivered a staff meeting on 'Quality First Teaching' with a focus on ensuring SEN children can access class teaching. Currently the SENDCo is working with staff who support many of our SEND children with difficulties in writing, to ensure that they make the best progress possible.
The SENDCo attends SENCo cluster and Network meetings termly.
