Welcome to Reception

A termly newsletter is posted in the 'Parents' tab of the website each term. This will tell you what specifically your child will be learning that term and other things that might be happening.

What is Jolly Phonics?

At Lakey Lane, we use Jolly Phonics as a fun and child centred approach to teaching reading and writing. There are 42 letter sounds to learn, each with an action. The letter sounds will be split into seven different groups. Below, is the first set of letter sounds that your child will be learning.

s - Weave hand in an S shape, like a snake, and say sssss

a - Wiggle fingers above elbow as if ants crawling on you, and say aaaa

t - Turn head from side to side, as if watching tennis and say tttttt

p - Pretend to puff out candles and say pppp

i - Pretend to be a mouse by wiggling fingers at the end of nose and squeak iiiiii

n - Make a noise as if you are a plane-hold arms out and say nnnnn
