Black History Month

Black History Month is an annual celebration of the contribution that Black African, Caribbean and Asian communities have made both locally and across the globe.

During this month the children at Lakey Lane celebrated the roots, traditions and culture of black communities.

On Friday 21st October 2016, we held a special 'Black History Day'. The day began with a wonderful whole school assembly. We were lucky enough to be joined by the fantastic Sammi and Chief Chebe from 'The Teaching Drums Company'.

The children enjoyed various workshops including African drumming, dancing, printing and mask making. Early Years listened to stories, tasted exotic fruits and made masks, instruments and decorations for a carnival celebration.

A HUGE thank you to Mrs Beyene who organised this wonderfully successful day.
